About this deal

Over the last six years we have accrued a number of toys, way more than any child could ever play with, and yet when we were offered the chance to review the Casdon Self-Service Supermarket I found myself saying yes, knowing with utter certainty that my children would go crazy for it! Initially not keen on anyone else touching it (the joys of being a toddler), however, she soon warmed up to the idea. Finance is provided by PayPal Credit (a trading name of PayPal UK Ltd, Whittaker House, Whittaker Avenue, Richmond-Upon-Thames, Surrey, United Kingdom, TW9 1EH). I’m hoping that I’m not the only parent who loves the chance to relive their childhood through their own children.

Casdon Self-Service Supermarket is an electronic till which has been designed to replicate todays self-contained, self-service checkouts! The 103 third parties who use cookies on this service do so for their purposes of displaying and measuring personalized ads, generating audience insights, and developing and improving products. Very disappointed that this birthday present arrived in no brown boxing so present was clearly on view for our 3 year old grandson! When it comes to putting together new toys, I have learned from past experience that it is so much easier to complete during nap time or when they are at school/nursery – it has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that I might want to have the first go (to check it’s all working correctly – obviously). The card machine on the side of the scanner also beeps when the numbers are pushed and coins put in can be given back as change when the button is pressed too. These can be used as props in play so that your child can pretend that they are talking with their friends. Educational toys should be age appropriate, otherwise they will not be helpful in developing skills or learning concepts. The boys’ futuristic version of my “Olden Days” [thank you, boys] toy is the super fancy Casdon Self Service Supermarket and it arrived this week in a very big box.

The paper money is made from a thin paper, so care should be taken to avoid any unintentional damage. And if you haven't got enough to do it will keep you busy tidying up all the little bits and all the ripped up (by your toddler) cardboard food packages. The set is designed to replicate a self-contained, self-service checkout and features a chip and pin machine, a realistic sounding scanner, touchscreen display, bagging area and three sections of food.On top of the stand is an electronic till which has realistic scanning sounds, lights, spoken instructions and a touch-screen display. They did enjoy playing with it, but I wouldn’t say it’s a toy that they would play with all of the time, but this can be said for a lot of toys. My postman laughed at me as he does whenever I get large boxes and try and squeeze down my hallway with them. Perfume makes a special, thoughtful gift for a birthday or Christmas, but there are hundreds of different perfumes to pick from.

They feel like it is like real life as they always love to help me to scan the groceries at the till and this is just something they love to play with. The Self-Service Supermarket is a fun way for children to learn basic maths skills such as number recognition and counting, for older children they can start to recognise coin values. You also have to make up some pretend food into small boxes and this was quite straight forward too. I think it is also a good one to start teaching my eldest a bit more about money and we may be able to start some simple addiction and subtraction with the notes and coins. We love the bright colours, the bold red, blue and white are great primary colours and make it appealing for little children. With Supermarket checkouts fast becoming self service tills, Casdon have created a child friendly version aimed at children aged 3 – 8 years, with all of the features a real supermarket provides.

The Supermarket was a little more sturdy – maybe with a fourth leg at the back – when we play outdoors on grass it falls over quite a bit when the scanner is used. However as a parent you could remove the coins for little ones and it wouldn’t spoil the enjoyment of the product. The weather really held out for Easter except for a few days this year – and the boys were really glad because they got a chance to try out the new Gazillion Bubbles machines! I was really excited about this product, there are a lot of cash tills on the market but this is the first time I have heard of a self service checkout. It's quite sturdy and makes a few different noises, the little products that come with it are fun and varied.
