About this deal

The Coppermind has spoilers for all of Brandon's published works, now including The Sunlit Man and Defiant.

Kelsier realizes that Ruin's power is incomplete until he finds the Lord Ruler's hidden cache of atium. Brandon Sanderson continues to be one of the authors I try to read as soon as he publishes something, and he very rarely disappoints! Mistborn: Secret History is a novella telling the story of Kelsier from the time of his death at the hands of the Lord Ruler until Scadrial is re-made by Harmony. They would have been considerably longer, but these chapters would have slotted perfectly into the main narrative. Resurrecting characters is a "dangerous trope" because Brandon wants death to be a real danger for his characters.Kelsier has an appearance in The Bands of Mourning in a memory Wax taps from a coppermind medallion, given to him by Hoid. With a renewed sense of purpose, Kelsier studies Ruin and his motives, riding out the pulses into the world. You would think that with Sanderson's productivity, a smaller thing like this would feel rushed and not great. As he does, he sees into Preservation's depths and feels his pain and love for his people, so he winds up hugging him in sympathy. I also have three YA series: The Rithmatist (currently at one book), The Reckoners (a trilogy beginning with Steelheart), and Skyward.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Ruin mocks him and summons his minion, Marsh, who quickly dispatches the messenger and reads the message to Ruin.

However, Ruin intercepts and kills the messenger using Marsh, Kelsier's brother, who is now under Ruin's control. Preservation is at constant war with its opposite Ruin, and has been slowly weakening and dying for centuries. When reading The Mistborn Trilogy, I was always surprised by a certain character's lack of presence and when they reappeared towards the final moments of the last book, I was surprised to how it actually happened.

As such, it contains HUGE SPOILERS for the books Mistborn ( The Final Empire), The Well of Ascension, and The Hero of Ages. The author noted in a blog post that the novella contained huge spoilers for the original Mistborn trilogy as well as minor spoilers to The Bands of Mourning, warning readers that knowledge of the story's existence was in itself, a spoiler. The obvious explanation is that distance from Sel's Investiture weakens the Reod's life-preserving effects, since all Selish magic that we've seen is highly location-dependent (and most Cosmere magics degrade with distance from their Shards anyhow). Ruin explains that nothing is destroyed, just changed, and that he and Preservation are two sides of one coin. Sixteen people, together, killed Adonalsium, ripping it apart and dividing its essence between them, becoming the first who Ascended. The third era of Mistborn is slated to be written after the first arc of the Stormlight Archive wraps up. Kelsier suggests that he could take the power instead, but Leras tells him that wouldn't work in his current state, and in any case, he doesn't have enough Connection to him.
